Project Description
Emptyfilm Digital Cinema, in collaboration with the Ionian University and Natasa Pandi, created a short animated spot dedicated to Easter and Spring, during a time of social isolation. This piece is part of the transmedia tourism campaign Ionian Experience | Art of Living.
In times of crisis, art has always served as a powerful means of expression and healing. On the island of Corfu, with its deep Renaissance roots and rich cultural heritage, visual art has long been a medium for conveying emotion and collective spirit.
In this project, four contemporary Corfiot painters contribute symbolic artworks that carry a hopeful message for Easter — a message of renewal, healing, and life prevailing. Their paintings are skillfully animated by five talented animators, bringing each image to life through movement and emotion.
Sound and music play an essential role in shaping the mood. Composer Apostolos Loufopoulos collected ambient sounds of an extraordinary Easter: morning birds, spring air, joyful church bells, the crashing of “botides” (clay pots), and human voices — blending them with traditional Corfiot Philharmonic sounds to create an immersive sonic tapestry.
Each artwork forms a chapter in this collective celebration:
- Giorgos Pennas introduces us to spring’s natural beauty, using poppies as a symbol of sacrifice and resurrection.
- Dimitris Miliotis brings the imagined sounds of Corfu’s Philharmonic bands to life.
- Spyros Kolyvas conveys deep spiritual emotion through the imagery of a crowded church.
- Natalia Aikaterini Kerkyra closes with the dramatic crashing of botides, symbolizing rebirth and the joyful arrival of Easter.
All brought together under the direction of Dimitris Delinikolas, with academic guidance from Yannis Deliyannis and a narrative crafted by Natasa Pandi.
