Academic Profile

Dr. Iakovos Panagopoulos is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Audio and Visual Arts, Ionian University, where he teaches and researches in the fields of film practice, audiovisual theory, and interdisciplinary media. He completed his PhD in Film Practice at the University of Central Lancashire (UK), focusing on the work of acclaimed Greek filmmaker Theo Angelopoulos. He also completed postdoctoral research at Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, investigating the interdisciplinary application of the concept of heterotopia through methodologies combining cinema and political science.

He is the scientific coordinator of the Film Praxis research hub, part of the InArts (Interactive Arts Research Lab) at the Ionian University. He is also an affiliated researcher with the StoryLab International Film Development Research Network and a member of the Gender Equality Committee of the Ionian University.
