The Project Includes
The development of a user-friendly application that will offer services for locating sites of historical and touristic interest, providing high-quality information and multimedia content.
The creation of holographic pyramids with corresponding holographic content.
The development of a web-based geographic system for remote users, featuring audiovisual material about the points of interest, intended for both touristic and educational purposes.
The creation of a Thematic Channel for the Old Town of Corfu, as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, within the EU’s EUROPEANA digital database, providing open access to metadata for reuse and further exploitation.
Project Description
The project titled “Digital Tour Guide Using Augmented Reality and Holograms” is being implemented by the inArts Lab of the Department of Audio and Visual Arts at the Ionian University and is funded by the Operational Programme “Ionian Islands 2014–2020.” The Scientific Supervisor is Associate Professor Ioannis Deliyannis.
The goal of the project is to create a comprehensive interactive tour guide for the Old Town of Corfu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, designed for use by both visitors and residents.
In its core functionality, this pioneering tool is designed to provide users with useful and reliable information, accompanied by high-quality audiovisual material for 80 points of interest within the Old Town monument.
The project also incorporates the latest photogrammetry techniques, enabling users to explore the individual elements that make up the monument in depth and with great detail. Key features of the points of interest are modeled as high-quality holograms, significantly contributing to the project’s strong innovation. Beyond simply identifying sites during a tour, it allows users to explore specific aspects that cannot be observed—even when standing close to the site.
