Academic Profile
Polyxeni (Xenia) Kaimara is a licensed psychologist and postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Audio & Visual Arts, Ionian University, specialising in the synergy between educational psychology, digital game-based learning, and immersive technologies. She holds a PhD on the design and development of interactive edutainment systems that promote inclusive education for both typically and atypically developing learners, integrating advanced media such as VR, AR, and transmedia storytelling.
Her research focuses on inclusive, technology-enhanced learning environments. She has worked extensively on the design of inclusive digital content, the evaluation of serious games, and the pedagogical use of cultural heritage assets through technology. Her contributions span EU-funded and national projects in cultural tourism, digital heritage management, and educational innovation, with roles including the creation of gamified experiences for UNESCO World Heritage sites and the design of AR-enhanced museum kits.
In addition to her research, Dr. Kaimara has extensive university teaching experience in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, delivering courses on educational psychology, inclusive education, immersive learning, and gamification.
