Academic Profile
Sofia-Maria Poulimenou holds a PhD from the Ionian University (Department of Archives, Library Science and Museology) with a thesis on the sustainable management of UNESCO World Heritage Monuments, focusing on the Old Town of Corfu. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Audio & Visual Arts of the same university, conducting research in the field of “Cultural Management & Public Space” under the supervision of Associate Professor Ioannis Deliyannis.
Since 2018, she has been serving as a permanent judicial officer at the Civil Division of the Corfu Court of First Instance. In parallel, she teaches in undergraduate and postgraduate programs at the Ionian University and the Hellenic Open University, focusing on tourism, cultural heritage, and digital transformation.
She has served as a special advisor in the Municipality of Corfu and the Region of Ionian Islands, contributing significantly to the cultural and tourism strategy, and to the inclusion of the Old Town of Corfu in the UNESCO World Heritage List. She has participated in numerous European-funded research projects (e.g. BRENDA, BYZART, Europeana, RYTHM), combining academic research with practical applications in digital culture, sustainable tourism, and heritage interpretation.
She is a member of scientific committees, a reviewer in international conferences, and an active participant in cultural education programs and accessibility-focused tourism development. Her work bridges theory and practice, with emphasis on innovation, inclusion, and sustainability.
