Ioannis Karydis

Ioannis Karydis – Short CV

Current Position:Assistant Prof. at the Dept. of Informatics, Ionian University, Greece

Scientific Field: Music Information Retrieval, Multimedia Systems, Cultural Informatics

Academic Profile

Ioannis Karydis holds a PhD in Computer Science from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with a focus on mining and retrieval methods for acoustic and symbolic musical data. He also holds an MSc in Advanced Methods in Computer Science from Queen Mary, University of London, where he specialized in multimedia systems, parallel programming, interactive system design, and voice-enabled human-computer interaction.

His research spans the areas of content-based music information retrieval (MIR), music data mining, and multimedia information systems. His doctoral work introduced innovative techniques for indexing and querying symbolic and audio musical formats. He has further extended his academic contributions toward new media systems for the dissemination and retrieval of cultural content.

He is also experienced in the design of user interfaces for MIR systems, voice-based application development, and systems that combine traditional and non-traditional input/output paradigms.
